Bhubaneswar men and KIIT University women emerged champions in the 15th State Softball Championship, which concluded at Talabania Indoor Stadium in Puri today. Bhubaneswar defeated Rayagada 16-1 in the men’s final, while KIIT University prevailed over Sundargarh 20-9 in women’s summit clash.
Host Puri finished third in both men and women groups. Jyoti Prava Sahoo of Puri and Kiran Bidika of Rayagada were adjudged best players of the tournament. Over 350 players from 16 districts are claimed to have participated in the two-day championship.
Puri MLA Maheswar Mohanty graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophies. Odisha Softball Association secretary Debendra Nath Sahu and treasurer Shakti Ranjan Mohanty were present on the occasion.
